We thought it would be fitting to start with some cupcake facts.....

  • noun - a small iced cake baked in a cup-shaped foil or paper container.

It is believed that the cupcake originated from the early 19th century with the term 'cupcake' mentioned in E. Leslie's 'Receipts' published in1828.

There are two theories as to how the cupcake got its name. Firstly, they were originally baked in pottery cups and secondly, the ingredients were measured out in cupfuls. Both theories have historical evidence to support them.

The original cupcake was half the size of what we bake today.

The British 'fairy cake' is now firmly in second place following a massive rise in popularity of the cupcake.
